The Kind One
“Shall I get you another tissue, or would you like a drink?” asked the freckled young woman. Her friend was sniffling and wiping her nose. The freckled woman held her hand gently and whispered gently, “you’re doing so well, I know it’s hard at the moment but I’m so proud of you.” Her friend nodded but the tears kept flowing. Aware that they were in a public place and wanting to spare her friend any embarrassment the freckled lady continued to try to soothe her. She got up and re-filled her cup with some juice and grabbed some more tissues. “You have nothing to be ashamed of, you did nothing wrong, I hope you know that,” continued the freckled lady. Her friend was still not able to speak but was clearly taking in what her friend was saying to her. This went on for quite some time but after about half an hour or so the friend was looking a bit better. After a little more time had passed, she was even smiling and laughing.
Bearing witness to such an intimate moment drove home how
much small kindnesses can make a bit difference to the people in our lives.
