The Enthusiastic Girl

 

As I was beginning to think about leaving, a movement caught my eye. From across the room a young woman was staring ahead and waving her arms around. There was a smartphone in front of her, and she was making a bunch of goofy faces at it.

I kept glancing at her as I was packing up my things, her movements becoming increasingly more enthusiastic. Towards the end she was almost jumping out of her chair, waving her arms around and grinning wildly at her smartphone.

Was she taking part in a TikTok trend? I’ll never know! She did however look to be thoroughly enjoying herself. I wish I could muster even a smidgen of her enthusiasm, whether real or fake, on a daily basis.
